Protection Dogs for Sale in Canada

German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois are the two breeds best suited to Canada's climate and diverse lifestyle. Both breeds were developed for demanding outdoor work across harsh weather conditions — the German Shepherd in Central European winters, the Belgian Malinois in the Belgian countryside. Both thrive in Canadian winters and handle everything from Vancouver's wet coast to Calgary's prairie cold to Ontario's humid summers with equal capability.

German Shepherds (65–90 lbs) offer outstanding social adaptability, deep family loyalty, and proven protection performance — the most popular family protection breed worldwide. Belgian Malinois (55–65 lbs) provide elite-level drive and precision, preferred by Canadian RCMP, military K9 units, and executive protection programs for good reason. We help you choose the right breed for your specific Canadian home and lifestyle during your consultation with Wayne.

As with horses, cars or anything of quality, pricing is dependent on the individual dog. With this in mind, there are three areas on which we focus: Puppies, Trained Adolescents and the Fully Trained Adult. Puppies, generally between 8-12 weeks of age, are from $5,500. Obedience trained adolescents, typically between 5-18 months of age, are $15,000-$25,000, with a limited number available by pre-order only at $10,000. Fully trained adults are $45,000-$65,000. Prices are in US dollars. While there are exceptions in each age group, this is a general idea of our pricing.

Canada's climate necessitates regular exercise, hydration, and protection from the heat for your protection dog. Regular vet check-ups, grooming, and continued training and socialization are essential to keep them healthy and well-adjusted in Canada's environment.

Yes. Owning a trained personal protection dog is legal throughout Canada under federal law. There are no specific federal restrictions on personal protection dog ownership. However, provincial and municipal regulations vary:

Ontario: No province-wide breed-specific legislation (BSL) at the provincial level, though some municipalities have local bylaws. Ontario repealed its province-wide pit bull ban; however, German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois are not affected by BSL anywhere in Canada.
British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec: No provincial BSL affecting German Shepherds or Belgian Malinois.
All Provinces: Municipal bylaws on dog licensing, leash requirements, and public space rules apply to all dogs, including protection dogs.

Our team advises on any provincial or municipal requirements specific to your Canadian location. Owning a Simanovich protection dog in Canada is a legal, straightforward decision. Contact us to discuss your specific province.

Protection dogs undergo extensive training that includes obedience, bite work, and socialization. The duration of training varies but generally ranges from several months to a year, depending on the dog's age and prior training.

In Canada, owning a protection dog is legal, and there are no specific restrictions. However, it's essential to ensure that your protection dog is well-trained and under your control at all times to prevent any potential issues.

As long as we are aware of other dogs and pets we will select accordingly. We don't like surprises during the selection process!

We aren't gender specific. There are quality dogs in both male and female. Your specific needs are most important. Males are larger and more of a visual deterrent. Females are just as determined as family protectors and being smaller fit in tighter spaces. For many reasons, not the least of which being health and vigor, all of our dogs are intact.

Canadian federal law and provincial regulations do not prohibit the ownership of trained personal protection dogs for business security.
